That's why the Florida Building Code calls for a drip edge on a masonry chimney cap. Our specialists form new crowns with an overhang on every side and a drip cut or formed into the underside. It's a small detail that keeps the whole chimney drier and makes the brick and joints last longer. The overhang also shelters the top joints of the brick.

Crowns and caps work as a pair

The crown keeps water out of the brick; the cap keeps it out of the flue. Either one failing lets water into the chimney, and one can damage the other. A cap fastened into a cracked crown won't hold, and a crown without a cap lets rain run down every flue.
