The flue an open fireplace needs

With no collar on an open fireplace, the building code works the flue size out from the fireplace opening instead. Under the Florida Building Code, a round flue has to be at least one twelfth of the opening's area and a square one at least one tenth.

Width times height gives the opening's area, and the liner chosen must satisfy that ratio. A large opening can need a bigger liner than the chimney can hold.

In that case, reducing the opening with a surround or glass doors listed for it can bring the numbers into line, and you'll hear those choices with their prices.

A tee fitting at the base of the liner

For some inserts, the liner connects to the appliance through a tee, a T-shaped fitting with a removable cap at its base. Liner makers include it so soot and debris that fall down the liner collect where they can be emptied.

Where the appliance and liner call for a tee, one goes in, and you'll be shown where its cap is. At each sweep the cap is opened and the debris emptied, which keeps the connection from clogging.
