If the lean starts at the ground, the footing is the first thing our specialists look at. Undersized, cracked or settled footings are why some chimneys fail from the base. On a full rebuild, the footing is checked and, where needed, replaced before any new masonry goes on it. That part of the job is priced separately. The footing's condition goes on your quote with a note of what was seen.

Topping the rebuild with a proper crown

Every rebuild our pros finish gets a crown built the way the Florida Building Code describes for masonry chimneys: concrete, metal or stone across the top, pitched so water runs off, finished with a drip at the edge, and with a caulked joint where each flue liner passes through.

It's formed to overhang the new brick so water drips clear of the chimney face, and it's reinforced and cured properly. A flat mortar top like the one that may have helped the old chimney fail isn't an option. The crown is part of the rebuild price. A cap sized to the flue goes on right after.
