On the pipe joining a stove to the chimney, NFPA 211 lists what to check: how it's supported, how its joints are fastened, its pitch, and signs of damage, deterioration, blockage or heavy deposit.

Each of those is checked, plus the clearance from the pipe to nearby walls and ceilings and the spot where the pipe enters the chimney. Rusted sections, loose joints or a pipe that sags back toward the stove are all noted, and your quote says who corrects them. A stove connector joins the chimney through a thimble, a fireclay, refractory or metal sleeve set in the masonry. The Florida Building Code wants it built so the connector can't pull out of the wall or poke into the flue past the liner.
