The crown gets its own product

The concrete crown on top of a chimney takes standing water and sun, and it cracks as it heats and cools. A brick repellent can't bridge those cracks. Crown coatings, such as SaverSystems' CrownSeal, form a flexible waterproof membrane over the concrete instead.

Our specialists treat the crown and the brick as separate steps with separate products. The crown is cleaned, cracks are filled, and the membrane goes on. The brick gets its penetrating repellent. Using the wrong product on either one fails, so each is named and priced on its own line of the quote. Both steps can happen on one visit.

Some chimneys don't need waterproofing

According to the Brick Industry Association, a water repellent isn't necessary for brickwork that was properly chosen, detailed, built and maintained, under normal exposure. It also notes that the first round of repairs can solve moisture problems on its own.
