Getting the damper to close again

The damper in the throat of a brick fireplace is a hinged iron or steel lid that shuts the fireplace off from the flue between fires. Deposit and rust build up on its frame, and after a while the lid won't sit flat, so conditioned air leaks up the chimney and outside air drifts in.

They're different jobs that fit well together. The sweep cleans the flue; the inspection looks over the chimney for damage once it's clean. Our pros do both on one visit, and you won't pay for the inspection.

Do you sweep flues that vent a furnace?
